Use child fees
The Use Child Fees control lets you include or exclude fees from child courses during enrolment.
Use child fees as follows:
-
Create or edit a course. Create or edit a course with:
-
A fee set on the parent course.
-
One or more linked child courses.
Ensure each child course has its own fee.
-
-
Configure the Use Child Fees setting. Expand the UIO and then clear Use Child Fees to exclude child course fees. Then, save your changes.
You can also change this setting from Curriculum Manager > UIOs. -
Enrol a learner and review fees. Note that you must ensure the course has Prospectus? selected so it appears in Ontrack.
-
Enrol a learner in Ontrack. Go to Ontrack > Concierge > Enrolment and then select Create New Enrolment.
On the Course List and Enrolment Selection pages, fee exclusions are applied immediately. Then, continue to the pay step.
-
Review fees in the Pay step. If Use Child Fees is cleared on the parent course:
-
Child course fees are excluded from the calculation.
-
Excluded fees are still displayed in the breakdown.
-
These fees show a cost of zero.
-
The parent course fee is included and shows a value.
-
Behaviour with nested child courses
Example one: Parent excludes child fees
If you enrol a learner on a parent course where Use Child Fees is cleared, and the course includes nested child courses:
At Pay:
-
The exclusion applies only to immediate child courses.
-
Grandchild course fees are not excluded.
Result:
-
Parent course and grandchild course fees show a value in Cost.
-
Child course fees show cost of zero.
Scenario 2: Child course excludes its own child fees
If you enrol a learner on:
-
A parent course.
-
Child and grandchild courses (all with fees).
-
A child course where Use Child Fees is cleared.
At Pay:
-
Grandchild course fees are excluded.
Result:
-
Grandchild course fees show a cost of zero.
-
Parent and child course fees show a value.
